Fethiye - Sep 30

Following our 3 day hike we ended up in the coastal town of Fethiye. The town was known in ancient times as Telmessos, but was levelled completely by an earthquake in 1958. Few ancient buildings survive, and the town is now a tourist base for all kinds of boat and beach excursions. The harbor is particularly impressive. It was a bit strange to be back in "civilization" again... after several days on the trail.

My favorite part of the town was the fish market. The place is set up so that you can order your fish directly from the seller, literally carry it to a restaurant close by, and have the cooks prepare a meal complete with bread, salad, and sauces. I split a larger sea bass with Karel and it was delicious... at a very reasonable price. You pay for the fish and the restaurant charges only a nominal fee for preparation. A very good system for fresh fish.
Afterwards we took an evening bus to Pammukale.
